2020-2021 Online Registration
Beginning April 16, 2020, Online Registration will start for our “Returning” families as well as “New” to the district families.
School begins August 10, 2020 for the 2020-2021 school year.
If you would like to begin the process now, please email your current proof of address and your valid ID (for new to district families as well as returning families). Only “new” to district families, please email your student’s birth certificate and updated immunization records. You can attach the documents to the secure email address at 0363-Registration@nv.ccsd.net.

Meggan Fowler
Hello, my name is Meggan Fowler. I was born and raised in Palm Springs, California. I moved from Palm Springs to Los Angles were I lived for 10 years before moving to Las Vegas. I have been married for a year and half and have been teaching for 13 years. In those 13 years I have taught preschool, transitional kindergarten, 4th grade, and 5th grade. This is my second year teaching 4th grade here at McMillan ES. I love to be spontaneous and try new things. I have been skydiving, jumped off of a waterfall, hiked up a muddy mountain in Samoa, and eventually would like to bungee jump. I have traveled numerous countries, Paris, France is my favorite. My favorite sport is volleyball. While I was living in California I played in an adult volleyball league, and ran the LA Marathon. My one piece of advice to you is, you only get one life, try new things, and live life to the fullest.

• The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offers live, on-site tutoring weekly at various
branches in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Moapa Valley. Hours vary by site.
Live tutoring and expert homework help is also available through BrainFuse daily from 1:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Students can access BrainFuse at a library location, via the web, or using a
mobile device. Families can visit http://hottopics.lvccld.org/tutors for more information and
schedules for onsite tutoring.
• The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada offers on-site tutoring at many of their locations
throughout the valley. Hours vary by site. Families can call (702) 367-2582 or visit

• Afterschool All-Stars Programs utilize certified teachers to provide homework assistance, test
preparation, and individualized tutoring in core subjects, such as English and Math. Programs
are available at 14 valley elementary and middle schools. Families can visit

• Khan Academy is an online resource that provides students with video instruction and practice
problems to assist with learning concepts. Extensive support is available for K-12 mathematics

• CK-12 Foundation provides a library of free online textbooks, study guides, videos, exercises, flashcards, and real-world applications for over 5000 concepts to assist with learning K-12 mathematics and science concepts. Families may visit http://www.ck12.org for assistance.

• Socratic is a free mobile app that allows students to take a photo of a homework problem and get explanations, videos, and step-by-step help instantly. Socratic supports mathematics, science, history, English, economics, and more. Families may visit http://socratic.org for more information.

Mission Statement
The McMillan Elementary School learning community seeks to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations and college and career readiness through standards-based, data driven instruction. We strive to ensure that all students become independent and cooperative learners demonstrating respect, responsibility, and cultural diversity through rigorous content while increasing technology as 21st century learners.
Celebrations
The following are district-approved celebrations: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. No other celebrations are allowed during the instructional day. Students who bring in treats (cookies only) for their birthday may pass them out at dismissal to prevent bugs, maintain the cleanliness of the classrooms, and not to interrupt instruction. Parents are to deliver the treats to the front office only in the morning, and the student will pick them up from the front office. Please send only packaged single serving items. Please do not bring in balloons or flowers. These items cannot be delivered to the classrooms, as they are a distraction to the learning environment. Please note that all food must be purchased from a store. Homemade items cannot be served.

Homework
Homework enhances and reinforces skills learned during class, provides students an opportunity to practice skills independently, and helps students build personal responsibility. Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. Homework is an extension of activities that students engage in at school. Students can expect to have 10 minutes per grade level of homework in addition to at least 20 minutes of reading each evening. Homework should be able to be completed independently, although parental support of home academic activities is encouraged. If children are spending exceptional amounts of time completing homework assignments, please contact the teacher.
